Secret behind Gift wrapping : Technique 1-“Star Bow”

Most my friends were really a big fan of hand made and home made things. So I have decided to make a tutorial to make you own “Gift wrapping bow”. There are many way to make your own “Bows” , hopefully I would like to share my techniques one by one.

In this tutorial I would like to show one of my all-time favourite “Star Bow”. I would like to explain in 2 different stages. First stage will be about making our own stiff paper model (its like a tool) which we will be using to make the bow. Second stage will be the bow making. So lets get started.

First Stage, Things needed :

  • Flexible cardboard sheet,
  • Scissors,
  • Pen or pencil,
  • Ruler.
1

Step 1:Fold the cardboard sheet in 4. Just as shown.
2 3

Step 2: Considering the pointy edge as the center point. Mark three points, two on both corners approximately 4 cm from center point. one point in the middle of both points approximately 5 cm from the center.
4

Step 3: Using first three points, measure and mark 2 new points approximately 1.3 cm away from first three marked points. In a very simple way mark 2.5 points in capital “M” shape.
5

Step 4: Now its time to join the points, using a pen or a pencil.
6 7

Step 5: Now following the making cut out the form and also a little hole off the center.
8 9

Step 6: Now carefully number each pointy edge the same order as following 1,6,3,8,5,2,4,7 (mark these numbers in clockwise direction)
10

Step 7: by now you must have something like shown.( I made my model in a pizza box, because it was perfectly thick enough and bendable.

Second Stage Things needed:

  • Our flexible star we just did.
  • Scissors,
  • Peals,
  • Needle and thread,
  • Ribbon,
  • Ball pin.

1
Step 1: Hold one end  of the ribbon and pierce the ball pin through the middle hole of the model, to make sure it stays in center.
2
Step 2: Bring the ribbon around the first pointy edge which is marked as number “1”.
3
Step 3: Bring the ribbon to the center and spike the needle through the ribbon.
4
Step 4: Now bring the ribbon around the second pointy edge which we marked as number “2”.
5   6
Step 5: Now bring the ribbon to the center and spike the needle through the ribbon.
7
Step 6: Follow the same method for third pointy edge which is marked as number “3”.
8  10

Step 7 : Repeat the same method for fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh and eight pointy edge which were marked as number “4”,”5″,”6″,”7″,”8″. Do not forget to bring the ribbon to the center and spike the needle through the ribbon for each number.
9  11  12  13  14  15  16  17
Step 8: When you turn around the pointy edges should be covered by the ribbon.
18
Step 8 : Repeat step 1 to 7 approximately three to four times to get nice layers .

Step 9:  once you are done with step 8 try to fold the rest of the ribbon in the middle like shown.
21   23
Step 10: Now take the needle and thread, stitch firmly in he middle and carefully remove the ball bin out.
25
Step 11: Now carefully remove the cardboard model out from the ribbon.
26  27  28  29
Step 12: Stitch one pearl in the center to finish with.
